Staples out.

Rocky did not really want to get loaded in the SUV today and he really did not want to go for a ride. But when we got to MedVet,he dragged me in. He was nervous while waiting, but when his favorite tech came out he was just happy. He willingly ran off with her to the treatment area. Rocky is a social butterfly with all people and other animals. His tail kept wagging while all the staples were taken out. He showed off for the surgeon and hopped all over the place. Dr Dudley is very happy with his progress and released him to slowly resume all activities. We did get a preliminary path report. It say the tumor appears to be a rhabdomyosarcoma that eroded into his femur and caused the fracture . If that is true Rocky will probably not need chemo. That would be the best news. We have an appointment for an evaluation by the therapist in a couple of weeks. I am looking forward to that appointment.

Awesome Day

12 days post amputation and we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Rocky willing got up and went out several times today. It was a nice 50degrees today so we sat out for a while. Rocky loved that. Several of the neighbors stopped by to see him, including 2 of his favorite fur buddies. He did great and even restrained his enthusiasm when he saw everybody. It lifted my spirits seeing the old Rocky again. I finally feel that we did the right thing.

Med rework

After Rocky’s great day he has had more issues with med side effects. He has been on the gabapentin and Tramadol for 5 weeks and he does not hassled them well. We did not get the pain patch the other day because we could not get him up and to the car. Have I mentioned his stubborn streak. After a long discussion with the vet about his symptoms it was decided we would reset his meds. So yesterday he had just early partial dose of gabapentin and a late dose of amantadine. I was very hesitant in doing this and was ready to medicate at any sign of problem. I was very surprised by Rocky’s reaction. He slept for 6 straight hours, only finally waking up to eat. He is still not sleeping at night very well. Today he has had minimal Tramadol and just now amantadine. Again he has slept well. He really has only gone out once each day. He does get around very well and no symptoms of pain while out. For now we will medicate for pain symptoms and hope for a good nights sleep at sometime. Monday the staples come out. Yay.

Rocky’a great day

It really was a great day. Rocky went out to go potty 4 times. The most since his first day when he couldn’t sleep. He has even wanted to play a little when he is laying down on his bed. Occasionally he will get up to get a drink, but more frequently than not he wants to have us bring the water to him. Little spoiled I guess.

We are still tweaking his meds. The Tramadol is causing to be a little neurotic so the vet asked we cut it down to 50mg 3 times a day. That has helped but don’t think his pain is as well controlled. The vet offered to put the fentanyl patch back on. Any thoughts?

Only other issues is lack of sleep at night. This the reason I am writing this at 2:30am. Oh well. I can nap with him tomorrow.
